Margaret Zox Brown
Margaret Zox Brown is a New York City-based figurative painter whose work is rooted in emotional honesty, expressive color, and a deep appreciation for the everyday. Her large-scale canvases are drawn from personal experience—moments of connection, resilience, solitude, and quiet awe—offering reflections on life as it’s truly lived. Through each piece, Brown invites the viewer into a space of shared emotion, where beauty is found not in perfection, but in presence.
Her process is intuitive. A passing feeling, a moment of clarity, or an unexpected shape might spark the beginning of a painting. She sketches—not to plan, but to understand—and then paints in order to fully express the emotion at hand. Her mark-making is bold and open, her palette fearless. Each work carries a sense of immediacy and intention, guided by a commitment to capturing what’s real and resonant.
Brown’s work has been exhibited in international art fairs and gallery shows, and is held in both private and public collections around the world. Her paintings are known for their honesty, vibrancy, and emotional accessibility—offering viewers a sense of recognition in the deeply personal.
A lifelong New Yorker, Brown lives in the West Village and works out of her Garment District studio. The city’s rhythm—its layers, contradictions, and constant movement—infuses her work with energy and depth. Music also plays an important role in her practice, especially the lyrics of Bob Dylan, whose emotional insight and poetic clarity often inspire the titles of her paintings.
In 2025, Brown joined the roster of Iustitia Fine Arts. Her work aligns with the gallery’s mission to present contemporary art that is both conceptually strong and emotionally grounded. Through this partnership, she continues to expand her audience and deepen her artistic voice.
